A Schultute (school cone) is a large decorated cardboard cone filled gifts, treats, and school supplies that is traditionally given to German kids on their first day of school. This tradition is thought to have originated in the 19th century and it has been passed down through many generations. Now our NAWL families in the German immersion program are enjoying this tradition by creating their very own Schultutes as a family to celebrate the beginning of the school year!

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of 8th lunar month. It's a beloved tradition in many East Asian cultures, symbolizing family unity and harmony. Families gather to admire the full moon and share mooncakes (pastries filled with sweet or savory fillings), while taking part in traditional activities like lantern-making. NAWL's Chinese immersion students honor this festival with special classroom activities and tasty mooncakes! If you'd like to make your own mooncakes, check out this recipe here!
